We will update Weewar today (3 pm CET). Among other things we will up the map limits substantially. Instead of just 15 you will be able to create up to 30 maps and you will be able to maintain up to 30 favorites. This will hopefully make a big difference for such prolific map makers like NikiMcKnight.
We have also finally made base capturing undoable and your favorite maps will be available from the game set up.
And last but not least we have worked hard to support Internet Explorer better knowing that this is still the default browser for many of you. We still recommend Firefox though :)
During the last weeks some of you have played on the test server and tested the latest modifications to unit stats. Thank you for giving such a great feetback (Even on Skype, Thanks Jeye). Since today, the testserver is back online and available for further experimenting with the new unit stats. More detailed information is available on tangler.
A few enterprising Weewar players have set up a community map making contest. The jury has already nominated a selection of maps and it is now up to you to decide which designs are going to win. The wiki has all the details: Vote now…
[Update: It is all live now. Refresh you cache!]
Since the introduction of the map editor we have seen 1000s of new maps - unfortunately most user have not. A critical bit has been missing: A decent map browser (Code name: Map Universe).
Starting tomorrow you will be able to browse maps, find popular maps, bookmark maps and add descriptions to your own maps.
Weewar will be offline for about an hour starting at 11am CET this Wednesday (April 23rd) to make it happen.
We will be rolling out a small update on April, 17th. Weewar will be unavailable starting at about 11 am CET. It should take less than an hour for everything to be back up and running.
The main feature is an improved emailing system (see screenshot). Besides much nicer looking html emails, this also includes proper text only versions which many people prefer.
So prepare yourself to get some work done this Thursday while we are oiling the gears of Weewar.
And remember - if you have trouble getting back into the site, refreshing your browser’s cache should fix it!
In the last few days we have rolled out several small updates. We would like to apologize for not being able to give more notice up front. These particular issues had to be resolved quickly and required the system to be offline. Normally we do try to announce any foreseeable downtime as early as possible and we will try to further improve that from here on.
We have also noticed that some people have trouble getting back in when the servers have been offline. We have made some changes on our end to prevent this but you might want to clear you cache if you have problems getting past the maintenance screen. Normally a simple reload does the trick.
We’ll keep improving Weewar and our processes - promised!
We have received some exciting feedback from you regarding unit balancing. We have stopped the test server now to process it all and implement some changes and further tweaks. Once they are in we’ll share them with you and enter another round of testing!
Thank you all very much for your help.
With the advent of the map editor, pro units and in particular air and naval units have become much more commonly used. The new maps and scenarios show that some units could do with some tweaking. E.g. Battle ships are too powerful and can often dominate games while other units get rarely used.
In order to improve the overall balance between units we have collated a set of changes we’d like you to test on a dedicated test system. We do not expect them to be perfect yet but with your feedback we will be able to improve them until they are ready to be rolled out to the live system.
The exact changes are posted over at tangler, where you also have a chance to discuss them in detail and feed back your findings from the test. You can sign up for the test over on test.weewar.com (please note the test in the domain). Upgrades to pro are free but please do test non pro games as well.
The changes affect a great many things so you might look at the corresponding post on tangler for the nitty gritty details, but broadly they are:
We are quite exited about these changes and are really looking forward to your feedback.
Over on the wiki a map making contest is underway. Created by and for players everybody is invited to join in. There are even openings for judges, still. Learn more…
