First I’d like to apologize for the bumpy ride the recent update turned out to be. It took a lot longer than anticipated and we are really really sorry for that. All Pro Accounts have been extended by 2 days as a small gesture.

With this update we have rolled out an all new referral system. From now on you will get a 2 week Pro Account for every 5 players you invite to Weewar.  There is no limit to this, so 5 users are good for 2 weeks, 10 users for 4 weeks, and so on ….

If you already had more than 5 referrals (recruits as they are called on the profile) you will have received a 2 week upgrade by now. Any new referrals will be counted from today forward though.

We will roll out a referral system adding an alternative way to get a Pro Account. Weewar used to have this feature before and we are excited to bring it back.

This will require Weewar to be offline starting at 7.30 pm CET and should be over in an hour (hopefully sooner). We will fill you in on the details when it is live. The update also includes a number of smallish bugs.

Over the last weeks we have been testing a range of tweaks to the Weewar units and their properties. The balancing is mostly working, but some aspects are a tad off: Like the almighty Battleship or a bunch of Troopers who can stop a group of Jets in their tracks.

After several rounds of testing and a lot of brilliant feedback we have now a very detailed list of mostly small changes we’d like introduce to Weewar. These range from reducing the attack range of Battleships to enabling subs to pass under speedboats.

There are plenty more - check Tangler for a full list of changes. 

We are planing to roll these out to the live system on May 23rd. We’ll begin the update at 2pm CET and it will take about 1h.

The Weewar system requires these kind of changes to become effective for all games at once. So the new unit properties will affect new games AND games that are already underway at that point. 

We are really excited by this update. It will make Weewar more balanced and improve the game play even further!

Ars technica is giving away a nice laptop for your custom user generated content. Why mention it here? Because we have just seen Tygerdave’s intriguing entry using the Weewar map editor:

We will update Weewar today (3 pm CET). Among other things we will up the map limits substantially. Instead of just 15 you will be able to create up to 30 maps and you will be able to maintain up to 30 favorites. This will hopefully make a big difference for such prolific map makers like NikiMcKnight.

We have also finally made base capturing undoable and your favorite maps will be available from the game set up. 

And last but not least we have worked hard to support Internet Explorer better knowing that this is still the default browser for many of you. We still recommend Firefox though :)

During the last weeks some of you have played on the test server and tested the latest modifications to unit stats. Thank you for giving such a great feetback (Even on Skype, Thanks Jeye). Since today, the testserver is back online and available for further experimenting with the new unit stats. More detailed information is available on tangler.

A few enterprising Weewar players have set up a community map making contest. The jury has already nominated a selection of maps and it is now up to you to decide which designs are going to win. The wiki has all the details: Vote now…

Since the introduction of the map editor we have seen 1000s of new maps - unfortunately most user have not.  A critical bit has been missing: A decent map browser (Code name: Map Universe).

Starting tomorrow you will be able to browse maps, find popular maps, bookmark maps and add descriptions to your own maps.

Weewar will be offline for about an hour starting at 11am CET this Wednesday (April 23rd) to make it happen. 

We will be rolling out a small update on April, 17th. Weewar will be unavailable starting at about 11 am CET. It should take less than an hour for everything to be back up and running.

The main feature is an improved emailing system (see screenshot). Besides much nicer looking html emails, this also includes proper text only versions which many people prefer. 

So prepare yourself to get some work done this Thursday while we are oiling the gears of Weewar. 

And remember - if you have trouble getting back into the site, refreshing your browser’s cache should fix it!
