Bots are us

Since we introduced the ELIZA API several people have started developing their own Bots. Bots are computer controlled players that can accept invites and play other bots and human players like yourself. The only difference is in their names which are required to begin with ai_. That way no Bot can pretend being a human (Our very own flavor of the robotic laws).

The first bot was ai_ZappBrannigan. He is rather daft and was created by our own Bert as a proof of concept only. He has lost so many games by now that it is hard to gain any points from beating him (It is still good fun though).

Then there is ai_PuzzleBot who does not seem to accept invites at the moment but is normally quite responsive. It only accepts invites to un-rated games, though. ai_DavidBot is derived from ZappBrannigan and we not quite sure how it is different. There are several other AIs on the site in varying states of development.

I also know there is a ruby frame work in development to make bot development easier and there are several script that cover some aspects of a Bot’s mind.

Which other Bots are out there waiting for testing? Let us know! If you want to play one simply invite any of the above to a game and you are set.

I wasn’t aware of those bots, too. Yay for one-player-games!

ai_SmileyBot exists but is unfortunately currently not in active development and has not been running for some time. One day…

I’m a graduate Computer Science student and I managed to get my AI teacher to make writing an AI for WeeWars a part of the class :D

We’re working on two different AI’s now, with tow people per AI (only four students wanted to do the WeeWars AI :( ), I’ll let you know when the project finishes, we’re going to have a set of matches between the AI’s ^^

Good going Squarewolf. I have tried to interest people in my department as well, but no luck so far. If I could go back to the beginning of my PhD research I would incorporate weewar into my work, but its too late now.

I always wanted to set up genetic algorithms to evolve a model of a good weewar AI.

    dear devs,
weewar is becoming unbearably slow and many of us cannot post on the forums. after logging in and going to the forums, it says we are logged out. then we log in, which takes us somewhere else, and we go back to the forums page, but we’re still not logged in there. please fix soon

I like the possibility of creating and maintaining our own bots. I have a few computers at home doing nothing at the moment maybe I will look into creating a few bots =)
